Music at the Casa presents Jorge Mendoza

I was born in the city of Las Tunas, Cuba. I arrived in the US at 4 years of age. My musical interest began when I visited Cuba again and saw my nephew, a professional guitarist playing. I instantly picked up the instrument and fell in love with the world of music. My nephew introduced me to the world famous guitarist Paco de Lucia, and thus began my journey in flamenco music. I was primarily self taught excluding 2 lessons that I took with flamenco guitarist Juan Serrano. However, I always kept my heritage present and constantly indulge in Latin music. I seek to bring the best of the both worlds and congregate both Latin music with flamenco music as well hints of jazz and blues.

I began performing at the age of 16 across many restaurants and venues at Disney and between all those gigs, I met other musicians much older who have provided a clear pathway in order to transform my self taught virtues into traditional concepts and methods. I am currently performing at the the Four Seasons resort every Wednesday and Thursday and occasionally at weddings or private parties. I aim to provide my audience with a glance at my beautiful Cuba while blending the much loved Flamenco style music.

Jorge will be performing with German Collazos.

German Collazos was born in Bogota, Colombia and began his musical career at a very young age with the guidance of his father. He started with the harp playing primarily the folkloric Latin music. He then later proceeded to study the guitar. Being mentored by many virtuosos of Colombia, he developed a very structured familiarity with classical music as well as modern approaches to the guitar. He later moved to the United States where he began performing in countless gigs with both his guitar and harp. German has a unique approach to music which easily captivates the audience and fellow musicians due to his knowledge and authenticity of folkloric music from many Latin American countries as well as a clear understanding of classical music and overall musical theory. He currently performs at Ceviche's tapas and bars Thursdays through Saturdays in which one can indulge in a wonderful flamenco show. Whether it's jazz, Latin, flamenco or classical, German Collazos delivers nothing but elegance and maturity that will surely turn the heads of those listening.

Music at the Casa presents George Grossman

Born in Prague, the city of a hundred spires, fabulous gothic architecture and smoky jazz clubs, George has resided and played music on three continents, specifically in the U.S., Canada, Iceland, the UK, Israel and the Czech Republic. Educated at the Guildhall School of Music in London - where he often jammed with past and current Sting guitarist, Dominic Miller - and the University of Essex, George played with the Middle East Blues Band in Tel Aviv, Israel, with the chart topping group Kandis in Reykjavik, Iceland and has now been performing as a solo artist and with various bands in Toronto, Canada for the last couple of decades. He has recently relocated to Orlando and is now active on the Central Florida music scene. His 2010 CD “Europa”, recorded with his band, Bohemian Swing, has received wide airplay in Canada on the CBC and Toronto’s Jazz FM, as well as on some European radio station. The music on the CD is almost all original material and in a style close to George’s heart: a heady mix of jazz, French “chanson” and the intriguing harmonies of Gypsy Jazz. George and Bohemian Swing have recently played the Toronto International Jazz Festival, as well as countless other festivals and venues in Canada and the U.S.

In June 2012, George had the honor and the privilege to share the stage with jazz guitar legend, Larry Coryell. They performed one of George’s originals “Bohemian Blues” together.

George is currently working on two projects: an album of original jazz ballads and a tribute album to the late great New Orleans soprano saxophonist, Sidney Bechet.

I am a self-taught musician, and began playing professionally when I left St. John's College with a band called the Polkats.  We played our version of Conjunto (music from the Tex-Mex border region) in Baltimore, and were voted best band in Baltimore 3 years running.  I then moved to New Mexico and played with a jazz/western swing guitarist by the name of George Dunlap, an old timer who grew up breaking horses in Muleshoe, Texas and somehow ended up playing jazz guitar in Vegas for 16 years.  We played professionally together for 13 years before he retired, and then I played with Zoltan Szkeley (born in Transylvania, Romania to Hungarian parents) for 5 years playing our version of gypsy jazz and originals.  For the last 5 years I have been playing with George Grosman playing his version of jazz and originals.  I play accordion, piano (if there is one) and guitar at my solo gigs and an eclectic repertoire that ranges from tangos to western-swing, jazz to latin.
